Get your flu shot

With the colder months coming up, now is the perfect time to get your flu shot! This year, the University Health Center is once again offering flu shots to students and staff at JMU. “We’re excited to be partnering with [The Virginia Department of Health] VDH to help reduce the amount of flu on campus,” said Deborah Hoover, assistant director of Nursing. UHC’s goal is to eliminate flu outbreaks before they start.

The flu shot clinic will take place in the University Recreation Center, Oct. 10, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Oct. 11, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until vaccine supply is depleted. There are no preassigned appointment times; however, students are encouraged to pre-register. Walk-ins will be accepted and participants will need to bring in their insurance information. Only insurance will be accepted, no cash, credit card or other payment. Attendees should make sure they have eaten well, are hydrated and feel healthy prior to the clinic.

Students can pre-register for the clinic until Oct. 4. For any students who miss the opportunity to attend, Hoover and UHC still recommend obtaining a flu shot from somewhere else. “Running a flu shot clinic is an annual goal,” Hoover said. “Having students and staff vaccinated against the flu helps prevent the outbreak of flu on campus.”
