(Barron's) A landmine explosion on a bus in northern Sudan has claimed the lives of 10 civilians, marking the first such incident in the ongoing conflict between the regular army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The war, which began in April, has resulted in thousands of casualties and millions displaced. The blast occurred as the bus transported passengers from Al-Jazira state to Shendi.
Both sides, led by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, have been accused of war crimes, including indiscriminate shelling, torture, and arbitrary detention. The RSF has expanded its territory despite ongoing atrocities. Over 13,000 deaths and seven million displacements have been reported.
