Summer in Reggio Calabria
Summer 2010: June 3 to June 30
Benvenuto!
This is a four-week program based in Reggio Calabria, at the Università per Stranieri Dante Alighieri. The program gives students the opportunity to earn JMU credits while living in Calabria, the region whose name means “land that produces beautiful things”.
The University is based in the downtown area of Reggio Calabria, a three-minute walking distance from the Sicily- facing seafront, defined as "the most beautiful kilometer in Italy" by the famous poet Gabriele D'Annunzio, with a breathtaking view of the volcano Etna.
Academic Program
The Italian language courses offered are acknowledged by JMU. Students will enroll in six credits of intensive language course(s), choosing the six hours from the following options:
ITAL 211-212: Intensive Intermediate Italian (6)
ITAL 231: Intermediate Italian I (3)
ITAL 232: Intermediate Italian II (3)
ITAL 300: Grammar and Communication (3)
ITAL 320: Oral and Written Communication (3)
ITAL 446: Topics in Italian Literature (3)
prerequisite: completion of ITAL 102
 Room & Board
The lodging will consist of double rooms in fully equipped apartments at walking distance from the Università per Stranieri and the city center.
Reggio Calabria is more or less one third more expensive than Harrisonburg, but a lot less expensive than any other Italian city of equivalent of bigger size, like Venice, Florence or Rome.
Travel & Excursions
 The city has many beautiful beaches, both in town and away from town and is also in a unique position to reach other cities in Calabria, Sicily, Campania, the Eolie Islands and Malta.
