JMU in Antwerp:
Summer Program

Summer Semester 2010: May 17 to June 26, 2010

This program is open to both business majors and non-business majors.  Study in Belgium this summer and earn six hours of business courses.  You will be enrolled in MKTG 460 (Global Marketing) and COB 301 (European Integration, Culture and History).  Students live in apartments near the University of Antwerp, and participate in organized field trips to Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey, Salzburg in Austria, (birthplace of Mozart and filming location of The Sound of Music) Munich, Germany,and other cities throughout Belgium. 

Students take courses at the University of Antwerp taught by JMU and University of Antwerp faculty. Complementing the classroom components, the schedule includes company visits to the Port of Antwerp, the Diamond District, and tours of a chocolate factory, a brewery, and a coal mine. The schedule includes governmental visits to the European Commission and Parliament, as well as cultural visits to museums and historical sites.

No foreign language needed. All course instruction is in English.  Even though Flemish is the official language of Antwerp, English is spoken everywhere.

Prerequisites to be completed before departure:

  • Non-business majors: MKTG 380
  • Business majors: COB 300

Note to IBUS majors: the Semester in Antwerp will not count as your semester abroad experience.
