Requirements - Honors Scholar-Track I

All honors scholar-Track I students must complete 27 credit hours in honors courses for graduation in honors.  The required honors hours do not supplant any required hours in general education or the major.  Many honors courses will double count toward general education requirements or the student's major requirements as well as toward the honors total.  Other honors courses may even triple count towards requirements in a student's major, honors, and general education.  Honors electives come from honors courses, honors seminars, and Honors Options.  Unless a student opts to take many extra hours in honors, the following courses of study can be completed in a normal four-year sequence.  A diploma with the honors distinction will not be issued until all honors requirements are met.

Honors students are required to maintain a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA and take at least one honors course or Honors Option per semester until all honors requirements are met.  Failure to meet these standards will be cause for probation or dismissal.  Please refer to page 27 in the Honors Program Handbook on how to stay in good standing in the program.

General Education (Core)

     3 courses / 9 credit hours

Seminars

     2 courses / 6 credit hours

During the first year, most Track I students take one or two honors courses each semester.  Completing the core requirements should be a primary goal.  In the second and third years, Track I students should complete their honors seminars and elective requirements.  In the third year, they should also begin their senior honors project, submitting the project proposal (form available online) and completing the 499A course.  The final year should be devoted to completing the senior honors project.
